All the software listed below is free for personal use & much of it may also be suitable for business use but you must check the license terms before installing it in a commercial environment. People tend to be suspicious of something for nothing & we're regularly asked WHY or HOW it can be free and even when we explain, people seem to prefer to pay for software that does the job no better! However, there is actually good quality free software available to do almost any task you can think of, but big software companies spend millions each year advertising their products, whereas free software developers obviously don't have the same kind of budgets and tend to rely on word of mouth.
We have used ALL of the software shown below & can vouch for its usefulness & quality. We suggest using an alternative browser to Internet Explorer, such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox & Open Office does everything that Microsoft Office does, without having to pay £400!!! If you surf the net, you should always run at least an anti-virus program, a firewall, update your software to make sure it's patched & scan for malware occasionally. It's also essential to make regular backups of your important data & preferably your whole system!
