  • When does my screen need replacing?

If your screen resembles either of these images, then the screen is definitely broken & needs to be replaced. Drop us a line, or give us a call with your make and model & we can quote you a price to replace it. We normally get a replacement screen delivered next day & have your laptop back to you within 48 hours!

There are many different factors that affect the price of a replacement screen and obviously the larger the screen, the more expensive it generally is. However, due to our fixed labour charge, most common 15" laptop screen replacements cost as little as £71 inc. parts! For pricing on your particular screen, please contact us for a quote.

  • Not every display problem requires a screen replacement. A display with lines or strange characters can be caused by a faulty screen, but may also be due to a faulty video chip, backlight, or ribbon cable. A faulty or broken screen is normally obvious, in that you will see flashing lines, cracks, or half the screen on and half off etc. Completely blank screens, without obvious cracks or black spots, can often have another cause. If your screen is completely blank we will check the computer first before changing it and advise you if an alternative repair is required.

  • Whether screen or motherboard, we guarantee that more than 99% of the time, we can fix the problems associated with your laptop. If you have a broken, damaged, cracked, smashed, dull, dim or faulty laptop screen then get in touch with us & we can get it sorted at a very reasonable price!

We will personally collect/return your laptop if you're in the Colchester area, but if you're located elsewhere in the UK, we can offer a very reasonable courier service. Contact us to arrange for your laptop to be collected.

Depending on the laptop you are sending and which service require, the collection should cost between £10 - £25 & collection charges are additional to the prices we display.

  • Tips To Avoid Breaking Your Laptop Screen

Accidents happen and sometimes there's no avoiding them. Laptop screens get broken all the time, but here are some steps you can take to minimise the chance of it happening to you:

    • Never shut the lid of your laptop with any object resting on the keyboard.
    • Close the laptop lid carefully when not using the machine.
    • Never have food and/or drink near your laptop, regardless of whether you are working on it or not. Liquid spillage is likely to cause significant damage to many components!
    • Do not poke the screen with a sharp instrument like a pen or pencil.
    • Never place books or other heavy items on the closed lid of a laptop. It's not a coffee table and the weight can easily crack the laptop screen.
    • Try to avoid leaving the laptop on the floor or on a sofa. We've had clients bring in laptops with smashed screens because their toddler trod/sat on it.
    • Do not attempt to clean the laptop screen when it is on and always use a damp lint free cloth. Glass cleaning products can be used, but don't use excess amounts.
    • Always close the lid with two hands. Sometimes the screen will flex when using one hand, causing it to crack.
    • For the same reason, never pick up your laptop by the screen/lid and definitely don't pick it up by the corner.
    • If the hinges or lid of a laptop are cracked or damaged, get it repaired immediately, otherwise the screen could also become damaged by flexing.
    • If you think your screen has failed, try plugging an external monitor into it. If both the monitor and screen show no signs of output, it could require a laptop motherboard repair instead.
